Total Household Debt 

Cost information website reports, "The American government is fast approaching the $22 trillion mark in national debt."  While the federal government seems addicted to debt, it appears American consumers "have a similar obsession for personal debt."  The website analyzed data collected by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, which found U.S. household debt has risen for 16 straight quarters. turned the bank's data into a graphic that "paints a detailed picture of what's really going on underneath the surface of alarming headlines about debt."  The analysis points out that while "some of these (debts) are healthy for economic growth," too many Americans "are in way over their heads."
